Re: Meet The Jester
I like the color scheme. As for servos, the EMax ES9251s are awesome in almost the entire Willy Nillies product line. A few really need the larger ES9201 but most work great with the smaller ones.

Re: Scratch building a Curtiss P-6E
Nice! I use that push-pin technique when building with foam from plans. Never tried it with Balsa. Another useful method (if you have a band saw) is to use carbon paper to trace the rib outline onto heavy plastic or thin plywood. Cut that out and then place on top of a stack of balsa to cut out a ...

Welcome aboard! That P6 wing looks awesome. At the very bottom of the forum home page is a section for custom/scratch builds. Feel free to drop some pics and/or a build log in there. You're account is now fully activated and you can post at will. Enjoy!

Re: Honker Bipe with "easy" ailerons
Hmm... Even after adding another 1/4 inch (3/4 inch total) to the ailerons AND replacing a slow moving ES9251 servo with a known good ES9051, I am still disappointed in the roll response of my Honker Bipe. I totally realize it's not a Pitts Special or other highly aerobatic plane BUT I thought I ...

Re: Honker Bipe with "easy" ailerons
The additional 1/4" on the ailerons helps quite a bit. It also turns out that part of my aileron problem is a VERY slow moving servo. If I wiggle the stick back and forth rapidly, the servo loosens up and moves more quickly. I suppose the grease inside has thickened up. I'll replace that servo ASAP ...

Dusty ailerons
For those who have added ailerons to their Dusty, what size and how much throw did you use?

Re: Honker Bipe with "easy" ailerons
Well it turns out that, even at 100% throw, 1/2 inch ailerons weren't enough. The roll rate is very slow so I added another 1/4 inch to each. Picture for comparison.
I'll get the add-ons painted and test fly ASAP.- Mon Sep 30, 2024 10:31 am

Re: Honker Bipe with "easy" ailerons
As hoped, upping elevator expo from 25% to 35% made a world of difference and its a lot more comfortable to fly. Aileron response is somewhat lackluster but increased throw should resolve. Looking like this will be another good one for my squadron. Now, if I can take what I learned from this one and ...

Re: Ace High MkII - in foam
Maiden went flawlessly. With summer heating and a bit of wind, soaring power off should be no problem at all. Stayed in the air cruising along at 15% power on a cool and windless early morning.

Honker Bipe with "easy" ailerons
Not having sufficient confidence in my skill to do integral ailerons like Ed Larsen did, I opted for the easier route - full length trailing edge ailerons. I put fixed trailing edges on the upper wing to match. Per Ed's experience, I added some area to the horizontal stab and kind of wish I hadn't ...
